Circular Walk from Egham to Runnymede on 4/4/2019
The walk was led by Brenda and Andy.
From Egham the walk went 2.5 miles via Cooper's Hill to Englefield Green for lunch at The Barley Mow Inn. Then 3.5 miles down to the Thames near Magna Carta Island to the Runnymede memorials including the new "Writ in Water" one, returning to Egham Station over the Runnymede Meadows.
The first picture is of the Air Forces Memorial.
The Air Forces Memorial, or Runnymede Memorial is a memorial dedicated to some 20,456 men and women from air forces of the British Empire who were lost in air and other operations during World War II. Those recorded have no known grave anywhere in the world, and many were lost without trace. The name of each of these airmen and airwomen is engraved into the stone walls of the memorial, according to country and squadron.

The next picture is of the group after lunch.

The final two pictures are of "The Jurors" artwork at Runnymede
The Jurors artwork was commissioned by Surrey County Council and the National Trust to mark the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta. The sculptor Hew Locke created 12 bronze chairs each of which is decorated with symbols of past and present struggles for freedom, equality and the rule of law. The artist / sculptor invites participants to sit, reflect upon and discuss the themes represented. The image on the back of one of the chairs is a representation of Nelson Mandela's prison cell on Robben Island, South Africa. The portrait seen on another chair is of Lillie Lenton wearing insignia related to the imprisonment and activism of suffragettes.
