ON BEHALF OF THE COMMITTEE
Dear Sutton and Wandle Valley Ramblers,
I hope you are keeping well and staying safe, enjoying the good weather as far as possible. It s a great pity that the government lockdown started just as the weather improved and when our current programme had only been running for two weeks. Let me remind you that all Ramblers events are cancelled at least until May 31 and therefore the programme is suspended (this includes walks and events that do not appear on the website!). However DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR PRINTED PROGRAMME BOOKLET. On p2 it contains contact information for all the committee. Also on p2 please note the following amended dates (venue & times are same): Leaders’ Meeting October 21st & Group AGM November 28th.
It also contains useful ideas for walks you might undertake with members of household in the local area maintaining social distancing from others you may come across. For example my walk originally planned for Good Friday is a circular from Belmont, and the bluebells in Banstead Woods have started to come out so the walk originally planned for April 28 by Susan D and Barbara H is particularly topical (if you can get to Banstead). All Melanie's walks are also a possibility. You can contact the leaders if you have any queries. Another source of Ramblers ideas for walks in the lockdown is called Roam Sweet Home (requires registration): click on the Ramblers logo at the top of our webpage
Another reason why you should keep the booklet is that some of the later walks and visits may yet go ahead on the published dates! This looks unlikely at the present moment but if restrictions are lifted by May 31 or in June, then the remaining events will go ahead (though some of them may still be amended or even cancelled by leaders). Please read the weekly emails very carefully in this event.
A more likely scenario is that restrictions will be lifted at sometime early in the period of the next programme (July to October). Leaders will be told that the current deadline for walks proposals will be extended beyond May 19 to allow for the late production of this new programme, which will be distributed in the usual way provided restrictions have been lifted. However we may have to notify you of some events only by email (and the webpage) in case we decide to further suspend the programme, or just the printed version. It all depends on the date restrictions are lifted and when the Ramblers allow us to run events (they provide the insurance), and of course how much notice is given. So bear with us as a committee!
The current coach trip planned for April 25 is of course cancelled but we will decide as a committee what to do about the one planned for September 19. If you have any input on this please discuss it with myself or Margret the social secretary.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all leaders on your behalf for their fabulous events. It would be a pity to waste the ones in the present programme that we are unable to hold: they may appear in a future programme!
Please contact any member of the committee if you have any questions or comments. Also remember the contact service described in last week's email and run by our membership secretary Pam Pearse.
WE WISH YOU ALL A HAPPY EASTER!
.
From Roger Sugden, Chair SWVR
